Liver, Kidney, Bladder & Gall Bladder Support & Cleanse Liquid *(* As recommended by holistic veterinarians for use under a traditional medical system)

Hepa ProtectLiquid isused holistically to help provide systemic liver and kidney support; as analterative and adaptogenic tonic which may help bring the body into balance as well as alter the outer membrane of liver cells to help prevent toxins from penetrating them and may help encourage the animal body toregenerate liver cells. Also used holisticallyto help cleanse the liver and may encourage liver repair in cases of dysfunction; may help promote bile flow; andmayhelp detoxify and protect the liver and kidneys by promoting bile production and by helping to inhibit the growth of certain bacteria and fungi.(* As recommended by holistic veterinarians for use under a traditional medical system)

Used by holistic veterinarians to help detoxify the liver and kidneys, which is essential as our animals are carrying tremendous toxic loads due to polluted water, diets comprised of commercial foods lacking nutrients and environmental toxins such as detergents, dryer sheets and other chemicals that tax and overburden immunity.

Rich in vitamins, macro and trace minerals, silymarin (commonly known as milk thistle), fatty and amino acids, 17 alkaloids, glycosides and particularly its silica and boldine content, Hepa Protect is suggested as an integrative support which may be used for liver and kidney disorders, including hepatic lipidosis; Fatty Liver Disease (FLD); Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD); Feline Urological Syndrome (FUS) and Feline cholangiohepatitis; for its secondary benefits which may help to fight bladder, urinary tract and kidney infections and as a liver cancer adjunctive.(* As recommended by holistic veterinarians for use under a traditional medical system)

Other holistic, therapeutic indications may include use to help regulate kidney acid/alkaline levels; may help support kidney and endocrine function; may be used for oxalate and struvite crystals and stones; may help reduce uric acid and acidify urine; may be useful fo gall bladder inflammation, gall stones and gallbladder infections as well as kidney colic and calculi and to help support water balance and fluid regulation (especially important for senior and immuno compromised animals.)(* As recommended by holistic veterinarians for use under a traditional medical system)

Plants contain dozens and often, hundreds of natural, plant chemicals, which provide primary (see above) and secondary health benefits. Other secondary plant benefits Hepa Protect may help support normal hormone production involved in red blood cell formation and blood pressure regulation; may help support the excretion of waste products; may help tone and strengthen the bladder and connective tissue; may be useful for incontinent animals; may help promote strong skin, tissue, bones, claws and fur; may help protect the myelin sheaths around nerve cells and the membranes of the brain and spinal cord; may help to reduce prostate inflammation; and may be useful for colitis and Inflammatory Bowel Disease.(* As recommended by holistic veterinarians for use under a traditional medical system)

Do not administer to adult cats for more than 30 days. This product should not be used with puppies or kittens.

Recommended Use

Adult and Senior animals, to monitor kidney and liver function parameters (BUN, Creatine, Phosphorus, urine specific gravity, ALT, Bilirubin, GTT), to evaluate organ function and response to treatment.

Ingredients*

Horsetail, Boldo, Lion\’s Tooth Dandelion, Artichoke (milk thistle) and Agracejo; Liquid extract (no alcohol)

Contraindications: Do not administer to adult cats for more than 30 days. This product should not be used with puppies or kittens.

For Horsetail: Contraindicated with other drugs for cardiac disease, in cases of edema, high blood pressure or bladder stones composed of silica or related materials. Contraindicated for extended use beyond 90 days without breaks in between usage.

For Boldo: Boldo has demonstrated abortive properties and is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation. Boldo may thin the blood and is contraindicated with blood thinning medications such as Warfarin or those with disorders that have a tendency towards thin blood (such as thrombocytopenia or hemophilia). Boldo has diuretic effects and is contraindicated for long-term, chronic use beyond 90 days without breaks in between usage. Do not exceed the recommended dosages.

For Lions Tooth: Patients with obstruction of the bile duct or gall bladder should not take Lions tooth (dandelion). Dandelion might decrease how much antibiotic the body absorbs and taking Lions tooth along with antibiotics might decrease their effectiveness.

For Artichoke: None reported.

For Agracejo: Contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.

Drug Interactions

For Horsetail: May potentiate diuretics. May potentiate use of anticoagulant andanti-platelet drugs.

For Boldo: Boldo may potentiate the effects of blood-thinning medications such as Warfarin. Bold may decrease metabolic activation and/or metabolism of toxins, drugs, and chemicals in the liver. Boldo may decrease the effect or reduce the half-life of certain drugs that are metabolized in the liver. Taking boldo along with synthetic medications or other supplements that might harm the liver can increase the risk of liver damage. Boldo might slow blood clotting and taking boldo along with medications that also slow clotting might increase the chances of bruising and bleeding.

For Lions Tooth (Dandelion): Toxicity to lithium may worsen due to the possibility of sodium depletion. May have diuretic effects and may potentiate hypoglycemic effects. Medications that are changed by the liver (Cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) substrates and Glucuronidated Drugs)) interact with Lions Tooth. Lions Tooth might decrease how quickly the liver breaks down some medications. Taking Lions Tooth along with some medications that are broken down by the liver can increase the effects and side effects of some medications. Before giving Lions tooth to your pet, talk to your Vet as Lions tooth might increase how quickly some medications are changed by the liver

For Artichoke:Artichoke has beenn documented to lower blood cholesterol and may potentiate the effects of cholesterol-lowering statin drugs.

For Agracejo: Use of tetracycline antibiotics may lead to a decrease in the effectiveness of antibiotics.

Cautions

For Horsetail: Use caution if your pet has cardiac symptoms or disease or suffers from edema. Do not use if your cat/dog is pregnant or nursing, has ulcers or is scheduled for surgery. Horsetail is not recommended for long term use alone as it contains a chemical called thiaminase that breaks down the vitamin thiamine, possibly leading to thiamine deficiency and could worsen a thiamine deficiency condition. Horsetail might lower blood sugar levels in animals with diabetes. Watch for signs of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) and monitor your pets blood sugar carefully if your pet has diabetes. Horsetail might flush potassium out of the body and possibly lead to potassium levels that are too low.

For Boldo: Do not use if your pet is pregnant. Boldo has abortive and blood-thinning effects and may cause birth defects. Do not use if your pet has a diagnosed bile obstruction. Use caution if your pet has liver dysfunction or liver disease. Talk to your Vet before adding Boldo to your pets diet as Boldo may increase the flow of bile, a fluid produced by the liver and stored in the gallbladder. Bile passes through small channels (ducts) in the intestine where it plays an important role in digesting fats. When ducts become blocked, extra bile flow might be harmful in cat/dogs with blocked bile ducts. Boldo can slow blood clotting, so discontinue use at least two weeks prior to the date your pet is scheduled for surgery.

For Lions Tooth: Cautioned for mild diarrhea, heartburn, stomach inflammation anddyspepsia. Can cause allergic reactions when taken by mouth for animals allergic or sensitive to Lions Tooth (Dandelion). Dog/cats who are allergic to ragweed and related plants (daisies, chrysanthemums, marigolds) are likely to be allergic to dandelion. If your pet has allergies, be sure to check with your Vet before taking. Long-term use can elevate blood pressure in cats and should be used for short term only.

For Artichoke:In some animals, artichoke can cause some side effects such as intestinal gas at high doses. Some animals may experience an allergic reaction if your pet is sensitive to plants in the Asteraceae or Compositae family, including ragweed, chrysanthemums, marigolds, daisies, and other plants. .

Diabetics and animals with hypoglycemia should use artichoke with caution and monitor blood sugar levels closely. Animals with gall bladder disease should use artichoke only under medical supervision. Artichoke might worsen bile duct obstruction by increasing bile flow. If your pet has this condition, dont use artichoke without first discussing this with your Vet as artichoke might make gallstones worse by increasing bile flow.

For Agracejo: UNSAFE for kittens/puppies. Do not use if your pet is pregnant or nursing.Agracejo contains a plant chemical called berberine, which can cause brain damage in kittens and puppies. The berberine in Agracejo can pass from a mothers body into her offspring through the placenta and brain damage can occur in puppies/kittens exposed to berberine. Use caution if your cat/dog has ulcers, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypotension (low blood pressure), gastrointestinal disorders, liver dysfunction or renal (kidney) dysfunction. Overuse or extended use beyond 90 days may produce diarrhea and renal irritation.
